Balotelli Gets a 1-Match Ban Over Instagram Post

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has been handed a one-match ban and fined £25,000 by the English FA as punishment for his racist and anti-Semitic Instagram post.
Balotelli last week accepted a charge of an aggravated breach of Football Association rule E3 for a post he made on social media network Instagram.
The Italian, 24, reposted an image of Nintendo game character Super Mario on his Instagram page, with the texts: “jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a Jew.”
He later tweeted to deny the post was offensive, before apologising and deleting the post.
FA guidelines clarified that “deleting an inappropriate posting, whilst advisable, does not necessarily prevent disciplinary action being taken”.
He wrote in mitigation to the FA and did not request a personal hearing. Liverpool had hoped his explanation would see him end up with only a fine.

The FA said in a statement: “Following an independent regulatory commission hearing today Mario Balotelli has been fined £25,000, suspended for one-match with immediate effect, subject to any appeal, and warned as to his future conduct after he admitted breaching FA rules in relation to social media. “The charge was that an image the Liverpool player posted on social media was abusive and/or insulting and/or improper, contrary to FA rule E3(1). Furthermore, the posting was considered to be an “aggravated breach” as defined in FA rule E3(2) in that it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race and/or nationality and/or religion or belief. Mr Balotelli has also been ordered to attend an education programme.”
The FA has also ordered Balotelli to attend an education course.
Liverpool said they were awaiting the full written verdict from the panel but did not rule out further action against the player by the club.
A Liverpool spokesman said: “Any further action taken by ourselves in relation to this matter is between the club and player.”
Balotelli will now miss Liverpool’s match at home to Arsenal on Sunday, subject to any appeal.
The ex-Inter Milan and Manchester City striker has scored twice in 15 appearances in all competitions since his £16m move from AC Milan in the summer and has yet to score a league goal.

Yoruba names for some animals & birds

This contribution answers the many questions that have always appeared as search terms on this blog for a long time. Unfortunately, I’m not equipped to answer those questions about the names of birds, animals, rodents … Such questions started appearing since the posting of What’s in a name? – A look at Yoruba’s views of some birds’ names by Deleola Daramola in June 2013. The article, a very popular one, had a mere 431 total views during the seven months of that year but would subsequently attract 1,640 views (2014); 2,868 views (2015); 2,822 views (2016) and in 2017 to date, there have been 1,872 views – a grand total of 9,633 views. There have been questions about “Yoruba name for igun”; “… hoopo bird called in Yoruba”; “… aluko and agbe birds in Yoruba culture”; “the English name of eye akalamagbo”; “What is the English of eye kowe”, and many others. At the end of the list, there are a couple of references, and more can be found through Google. PLEASE NOTE: Spellings often dif...

Tiwa Savage Files For Divorce As Husband Tee Billz Relocates To The US

If the report making rounds is anything to go by, then the troubled marriage of music superstar Tiwatope Savage and her husband Tunji Balogun Teebillz  has finally crashed after all efforts to make it work failed. Their battle was first made public in May 2016 when Tiwa Savage washed her husband’s dirty linen in an emotional interview where she talked about his battle with hard drug and other issues affecting their marriage. Though she later reconciled with him, the two seem to have finally called it quit. According to a source, Tiwa Savage has started a divorce proceeding as her husband who’s been missing in action since late last year has secretly moved to the United States. Olatunji Balogun who was previously married to a lady in the UK reportedly left his first marriage to marry Tiwa Savage who was one of the artists he was managing then. Sadly, Tiwa Savage got carried away by love without watching for the red signals. Even though her relationship with Tee Billz was not...
