AAUA Increases School Fee From 25k+ To 120k+

The management of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, a state owned university in Ondo state shocked students this morning as students logged in to the portal to know their fee for the next academic session which starts on Sunday 8th of April 2018 And the school fee ranged from 120000 to 150000 depending on faculty for returning students And atleast 180000 for freshers It will be noted that the students have been at home since 9th of January when the last academic session ended and nothing was said about resumption until there were several agitations on social media telling the government of the state as well as management to stop keeping them in the dark over resumption as no excuse was given for the school’s close down as well as not to carry out their plan of increasing the school. Boy Aged 8 ‘Beaten to Death by Teacher for Failing to Solve Maths Problem’

An eight-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death by his teacher for failing to solve an maths problem. Sujit Munda reportedly died on Sunday, a week after complaining of severe pain following a caning by his tutor. The schoolboy’s father has filed a police complaint against the teacher, Mohammad Arshad Hussain, Al Jazeera reported. The 45-year-old has reportedly been suspended from the village school of Balsokra, in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand. A post mortem has taken place to determine whether the boy died as a result of the corporal punishment. A police investigation found the teacher had caned Sujit after he failed to solve the arithmetic problem, according to Al Jazeera.

Unilorin Expels 8 Students Over Misconduct

Deputy Registrar, Student Affairs Unit of the University of  Ilorin, Mrs Kate Sallee, on Monday said  eight students of the institution were expelled for misconduct. Sallee, who is also the Secretary of  the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC),  said in a statement that the management of the university  recently tried the  students and found them guilty. She said the students included  Temidayo Olakunle of  Department of  Educational Technology; Dennis Adeniji of  Department of Sociology and Ademola Oguntade of  Department of  History and International Studies. WAEC’s 39 New Subjects Lack Teachers — Students

Secondary school students have decried the introduction of the 39 new subjects in this year’s May/ June examinations, saying most of the subjects still lack teachers. Speaking with Vanguard, the students said not having qualified teachers to handle the subjects would defeat the aim of introducing these subjects. According to the students, “The initiative is a brilliant one, especially when you consider the fact that some students leave school without any hope of knowing what next to do. English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education and Trade/Entrepreneurial Studies are compulsory for student who would also choose three or four subjects from Humanities, Science, Technology and Business Studies depending on their potential and interest.

ASUU STRIKE: University of Ibadan Announces Resumption Date

The University of Ibadan (UI) is set to resume teaching activities on January 4, 2014. This decision was announced by the Governing Council of the institution and was based on the directives of the Committee of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities and the National Universities Commission. However, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said strike still on. Mr. Olujimi Olukoyam, the registrar and secretary to the council at the UI, signed and released the official university bulletin on December 6, 2013, Friday. The Federal Government had yesterday shifted its ultimatum for the reopening of universities till Monday. However, ASUU has restated its rejection of the ultimatum, issuing yesterday a 14-point guideline to its members on why they must sustain the strike, adding that government's claim that external forces were behind the union only betrays government's desperation to distract the union's genuine cause. This was made known by the union in Strike Bulletin No. 14, signed by ASUU National President Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge. The union came up with 14 guidelines signaling that it is prepared for a long drawn battle with the Federal Government. The guidelines read in part: •Do not sign any resumption of duty. 'FG, ASUU Are Both Losers In Ongoing Strike' The Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Issa Aremu yesterday in Ilorin, Kwara State said both the Federal Government and striking members of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, were both losers in the ongoing over four months old industrial action embarked upon by the university lecturers. ASUU STRIKE: We Will Not End The Strike Until... The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said it will not suspend its ongoing strike until the four months salaries owed its members are paid. The union also wants the immediate implementation of the N1.2tn offer by the Federal Government to public universities, starting with the release of N100bn this year. The balance of N1.1tn is to be spread over five years from 2014. These were some of the resolutions reached by members of the National Executive Council of the union who converged on Kano on Friday to deliberate on whether to call off the over four- month-old industrial action or not. ASUU: Official Confirms NEC Meeting Will Be Held Friday The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Dr Lawan Abubakar has debunked media reports that the union had postponed its National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting slated for tomorrow. According to him, the Union had previously postponed the scheduled NEC meeting to mourn the death of Festus Iyayi, a former President, who tragically passed last Tuesday in a motor accident along the Abuja-Lokoja highway. Abubakari also denied that the striking lecturers had accepted the over N1trillion offer by the Federal Government, adding that the Union is agitating for the full implementations of the 2009 agreement, and " nothing less" .

BREAKING: ASUU Postpones NEC Meeting Scheduled Today After Iyayi’s Death Education After the tragic passing of the former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Prof. Festus Iyayi, who died on Tuesday in a car accident on Lokoja-Abuja Expressway, it was decided to postpone the planned NEC meeting. Yesterday, as Iyayi was returning from the meeting in one of the Northern ASUU chapters, a dire car accident occured, which led to the former ASUU president death. He was in company with some ASUU leaders and they were said to be returning from Kano where they sought the views of members on ending the four-month-old ASUU strike. Thus, it was decided to postpone of ASUU‘s executive meeting, scheduled for Wednesday. The aim of the meeting is to decide whether to continue or to call off the 4-months strike.
