Sex For Marks: OAU Lecturers Demand Probe Of Professor

The Chairman, Congress of University Academics at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr Niyi Sumonu, has spoken on the case involving a a professor at the university, Richard Akindele, accused of requesting for sex from a female student in order to raise her scores. Professor Akindele was on Monday fingered in sex allegations after leaked conversation between him and the student emerged online. In the said phone conversation, the professor could be heard asking the student to have sex with him five times to upgrade her scored from 33 to a pass mark. Reacting, Sumonu asked the university to investigate the matter. He said, “If it is established that this is true, the person, who perpetrated that does not belong to the academic environment. NPC Puts Nigeria’s Population At 198m

The National Population Commission (NPC) has put Nigeria’s current population at 198 million people with urban population growing at an average annual growth rate of about 6.5 per cent. Chairman of NPC, Mr Eze Duruiheoma, stated this in New York while delivering Nigeria’s statement on Sustainable Cities, Human Mobility and International Migration at the 51st Session of Commission on Population and Development. Lafarge Africa Plc, a sub-Saharan African building materials company, on Monday announced a loss after tax of N34.601 billion for the year ended December 31, 2017, compared with a profit after tax of N16.898 billion in 2016. The audited results showed that Lafarge recorded revenue of N299.153 billion, up 36 per cent from N219.714 billion in 2016. Gross profit stood at N50.759 billion in 2017, compared with N40.662 billion in 2016. Administrative expenses jumped from N23.737 billion to N41.595 billion in 2017, while finance cost rose from N38.216 billion to N43.216 billion due to high charges on over draft and bank borrowings. Lafarge Africa’s total loans and advances increased to N256.546 billion, from N104.709 billion in 2016. The company ended the year with a loss of N34.601 billion as against a profit of N16.898 billion. Despite the loss, the directors have recommended a dividend of N13.010 billion, which translates to 150 kobo per share, up from 105 kobo paid the previous year...

Access Bank Plc has released its audited results for the year ended 31 December, 2017,with total Income of N459.1 billion, representing an increase of 20 percent over N381.3 billion recorded in 2016. The growth in total income was mainly due to a 29 per cent increase in interest income at N319.9 billion in 2017,(representing 84% contribution).from N247.2 billion in 2016. Victims Of Herdsmen Attack Buried In A Mass Grave In Plateau State

The victims who were killed in fresh herdsmen attack - have been buried. They were laid to rest in a mass grave yesterday in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau state. Gunmen kill a lawmaker in Oyo state,Nigeria

According to the report, the lawmaker representing Orelope constituency in the state house of assembly, Gideon Aremu was murdered last night by unknown gunmen. A source who confirmed the authenticity of the report said the gunmen trailed the lawmaker to his residence in Egbeda local government are of the state before pumping several bullets into his body. Gunmen seized a bakery in Dhaka overnight, killing 20 hostages and two officers in a siege that ended Saturday morning, the Bangladeshi military said. All the hostages killed were foreigners, the military said. The attackers used guns, explosive devices and "a lot of sharp domestic weapons," said Brig. Gen. Taiwan accidentally launches missile toward China, kills fishing boat captain

 A Taiwan warship mistakenly launched a supersonic "aircraft carrier killer" missile toward China Friday, hitting a fishing boat and killing the boat's captain in an incident China called "a serious matter." A spokesman for Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense apologized on behalf of the military. "The Ministry of National Defense sincerely apologizes for the incident that caused the death of the captain (of the boat) and injured other crew members," Maj. Gen. Chen Chung-Chi said in a news conference. The ministry has also asked the Navy to provide assistance and compensation to the family of the victims. Buhari kicks out 184 top officials

President Muhammadu Buhari has removed about 184 top budget officials from budget duties and redeployed them to establishments that have little or nothing to do with budget over their roles in padding the 2016 budget. The present move is pursuance to his earlier stance to deal decisively with all those involved in the padding of the 2016 National Budget which has brought much embarrassment to the federal government. Speaking about the shakeup, a top official in the budget office confirmed to Vanguard that 22 top officers from the budget office of the federation were affected in the mass deployment. The rest were moved away from budget-related duties in other ministries, departments and agencies, (MDAs).
